Dominic Bostock is a British artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. His work combines painting, found imagery and text with heavily worked surfaces built through layering, abrasion and erasure.

His practice draws on memory, family and personal experience, exploring how the past shapes our relationship with the present.

Statement

Dad’s Drawer began as an excavation of childhood. Vintage printed material, handwritten text and recurring motifs are embedded into dark, heavily worked surfaces, partially buried and partially revealed. Real words and remembered phrases appear as fragments within the paintings.

Brooklyn Hope marks a shift. Made after moving to New York with his family, the work turns towards the present: the energy of the city, the neighbourhoods of Brooklyn and the small symbols of a new life taking shape. Colour becomes more vibrant and optimistic, while the same processes of layering, abrasion and erosion remain.

Together, the two bodies of work move between what we inherit and what we create for ourselves.
